Welcome to my online gallery!

My name is Anna Wheeler and I have been painting all of my life.
I majored in PAINTING at the NATIONAL ART SCHOOL from 1997-1999.

I have been exhibiting for over 20 years and have held 12 solo exhibitions at various Sydney Galleries including Sheffer Gallery, Janet Clayton Gallery and Tap Gallery. I have also been involved in many group exhibitions.

My painting is very colourful and I like to use thick paint and bold brushstrokes. My painting is figurative yet abstract. It comes from my imagination and dreams and of course the world!

Some of my influences are: the Abstract Expressionists such as Jackson Pollock and De Kooning and the European Modern Masters such as Picasso, Matisse, Chagall and Miro. I also like Frida Kahlo and Sidney Nolan and many more!

I have exhibited in many art prizes including the Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship on 3 occasions, the Mosman Art Prize on 3 occasions, the Waverley Art Prize, the International Women’s day prize and the Lloyd Rees Youth Art Prize.
My most recent show was The Figure at Tap Gallery.

Prizes include: Winner of the Peoples Choice Award for the International Women’s day prize 2020; Runner up in 2015 at TAP GALLERY; People’s Choice Award for the Out Loud Mardi Gras exhibition at TAP GALLERY in 2021.
